For publications which will boost their interest in submitting more articles at JOCR.

Dr. Faaiz Ali
I am very thankful to the Editorial board of Journal of Orthopaedic Case Report(JOCR) for nominating me for the JOCR’s Best Reviewer of January-June 2023.
It is the proudest moment for me as a peer reviewer. It is indeed an honor for me to serve the prestigious JOCR. The Journal of Orthopaedic Case Report(JOCR) uphold an effective, fair, transparent, constructive and timely peer review system thus creating and supporting trust in the integrity of research. Many papers I reviewed were outstanding, well written and with high scientific standards. I consider peer review as my academic duty. I offered less to JOCR but gained a lot. Peer reviewing for JOCR enriched my own knowledge and improved my own research. JOCR offered me a window to view new advancements and novel techniques in contemerory Orthopaedics. Peer review is beneficial to the scientific community and should be recognize as “Scholarly Output.” There is always possibility for improving the peer review process. Peer reviewers for JOCR should be given some form of credits and recognition for their time and efforts. This can include issuing review certificate and peer reviewer recognition in databases like Publons, Reviewer Credits or citing individual Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) of the articles in reviewers ORCID to register and tract all their reviews. The transparency of JOCR peer review process can further be ensured if pre- submission peer review and post publication peer reviews are initiated by publishing letter to the editor and by postings on the social media like twitter. The platform of JOCR can be utilized to train new researchers in peer reviewing by conducting virtual peer review training webinars and courses. This will result not only in increase in JOCR peer review pool but the quality of peer review will also be enhanced. The citation matrix of JOCR should be shared regularly with reviewers.
My journey with JOCR will continue. We have a long way to go and I am very hopeful that JOCR will achieve the status of high ranking impact factor journal in near future.

1. What was your experience as a reviewer for JOCR?
My experience as a reviewer for JOCR is more personalized and reviewer friendly than the generic style followed in most journals. I would get my queries to the authors communicated and answered in the shortest possible time through our Editorial team. It has always been my pleasure to review for JOCR.
2. What do you think should be the future course of JOCR?
JOCR is now on its perfect course and it would be another feather in its cap if we could get it indexed in other major indexing services such as Web of Science so that its credibility is even more validated. Publishing the content by fixed subject category every month might be a valuable step to reach the suitable audience
3. How should we improve the review process?
I would suggest the following steps to improve the ongoing review workflow
1. Present a review form/template with a set of standard questions to be filled by the reviewer assessing the quality of the manuscript
2. Make it mandatory for authors to submit an author response file with every revision as done in other journals
3. Automate the acknowledgment email to the reviewers to help them in getting reviewer credits with review recognition services
4. Your view of research and publications.
Research allows us to understand and explore from the known to the unknown. It forms the basis for innovations, policies, treatments, technologies, theories, and much more. Good research involves systematic, rigorous, and ethical methods to answer questions or investigate phenomena.
Publications are a critical means of sharing research findings with the broader academic community. They enable the dissemination of knowledge, spark further research, and provide a basis for application in practical settings. Peer-reviewed publications, in particular, are key for maintaining the integrity of academic knowledge, as they involve rigorous scrutiny by peers in the field before the research is published.
However, the current system is not without its issues. There’s a growing debate around open access vs. paywalls in academic publishing. While paywalled journals have long been a norm, they limit who can access and benefit from academic research. Open access initiatives seek to change this, but they come with their own challenges, including how to fund such access. Another challenge in research and publication is the “publish or perish” culture in academia which pressurizes the researchers to continuously publish work to sustain their careers, which can sometimes compromise the quality and integrity of published research. In short, research and publications are crucial for the progression of knowledge, but improvements need to be made in the systems that govern them to make them serve the purpose better.
5. Will you be interested in writing editorial or commentary articles if invited by the Editorial Board?
Of course, I am more than interested to write editorial or commentary articles.
Thank you once again for bestowing me with this award.

Dr. Madhan Jeyaraman
1. What was your experience as a reviewer for JOCR?
I, Dr Madhan Jeyaraman, am associated with JOCR from 2020. I have been constantly motivated by Dr Ashok Shyam and Mrs. Nutan Saroj to improve the standards of articles getting published in JOCR as JOCR is only Indian journal for orthopaedic case reports which is indexed in PubMed and PubMed Central.
2. What do you think should be the future course of JOCR?
We should work hard to get Scopus and Web of Science to get indexed for JOCR.
Social Media pages for JOCR in Facebook or Instagram or LinkedIn can be started and we can get 1 or 2 min video regarding the published manuscript and propagate the scientific knowledge.

We can start inviting 1 or 2 commentaries every issue, 1 or 2 view point articles every issue and 1 or 2 clinical images every issue.
3. How should we improve the review process?
We have to expedite the timely review from all the reviewers, so that we can publish the monthly issue upfront. We must bring a portal of “ahead of print” in our website. So that international authors will be more interested to send articles to JOCR.
4. Your view of research and publications.
Research will bring new innovations in healthcare industry. Research is not complete without publication which helps in propagating the scientific knowledge to the community.
The publication process typically involves peer review, where experts in the field assess the quality and validity of the research. If the research passes peer review, it is published in scientific journals or presented at conferences.
Here are some key points about research and publications:
Dissemination of Knowledge: Publications allow researchers to share their work with the academic and scientific community. This dissemination of knowledge fosters collaboration, sparks new ideas, and encourages further exploration of the subject matter.
Peer Review: The peer review process ensures that published research meets high academic standards and is credible. Peer review involves independent experts evaluating the research’s quality, methodology, and significance.
Types of Publications: Research can be published in various forms, including academic journals, conference proceedings, books, and reports. Each type of publication serves different purposes and audiences.
Impact Factor: Academic journals often have an associated “impact factor” that reflects their influence and reputation within the scientific community. A higher impact factor suggests that the journal’s articles are frequently cited by other researchers.
Open Access: The open access movement advocates for making research freely available to the public, promoting broader access to scientific knowledge and increasing research visibility.
Citation Metrics: Researchers’ contributions are often measured through citation metrics, such as the number of times their publications are cited by other scholars. Citation metrics can be used to assess the impact and influence of researchers’ work.
Importance of Ethical Conduct: Researchers must adhere to ethical principles in conducting and publishing their work, including proper attribution, avoiding plagiarism, and disclosing potential conflicts of interest.
Overall, research and publications play a crucial role in advancing knowledge, promoting collaboration, and driving scientific and academic progress across various disciplines.
5. Will you be interested in writing editorial or commentary articles if invited by the Editorial Board?
Definitely, I am interested to give editorials or commentary or view point articles every month to improve the quality standards of JOCR.
